This might seem like the most daunting of steps, so let me give you a Bull Free piece of advice...
This is probably one of the easier Steps! Seriously!
The toughest part of this step is the research.
OK, , you've arrived here with... Your Passion You know your Market You have increased your knowledge base You are a member of several groups related to your
subject
Now, let's help you find your very own product. (Forgive the voice over - it's
mine...Voice like a bullfrog!)
If you ever do an audio, make sure you get it done professionally if you have a voice like
mine. But...This is all info that I am giving away.
What's this Magic Bullet?
The Public Domain.
Public Domain material is material that is free to the public. This can be books, articles, photos,
movies, maps, etc etc
A few ground rules before you go diving in.
Because US copyright law is more straightforward we will generally go looking for information
(Books) that were published in the US.
- Before 1923
- Between 1923 and 1963
- Created but not published before 1978
Take Notes So....
Anything published prior to 1923 is definitely OK.
1923 -1963. They had to renew their copyright in the 28th year for their copyright to remain
intact.
If they didn't.....Start rubbing your hands, it's in the Public Domain. It's a pretty good
guestimate that close to 85% of books published within this time span were never renewed.
Where are you going to find these gems?
Head straight on over to www.abebooks.com
You will need to take notes along the lines of...
TITLE AUTHOR PUBLISHER YEAR OF PUBLICATION YEAR OF PUB +28
Copyright Renewal...
There is a statutory limit that is employed for books published between the years 1923
and 1963. The author had to renew the Copyright in the 28th year after publication.
So....If you have found a book that interests you from the year 1956 you will need to add 28 years
to that date. That gives you a new date of 1984.
With a bit of good fortune you might stumble across a work that the author has forgotten to renew
or has sadly passed away and his/her relatives have not renewed.
This lesson is probably the longest to do in terms of time. But... isn't it nice to be sitting
there now with your own product tucked under your arm? If you are going along the path of Affiliate
Marketing you will now be looking at this lesson and realising that it is not that difficult to
create a book that is all your own work.
What can you use your new found Public Domain works for?
eBook Audio Video Blog Content Article Content Autoresponder Content Up Sells Back End Sales Bonuses Ethical Bribes Create your own Home Study Course
Is this starting to get you excited? It should be...
What now?
Now that you have your book your next task is to send it off to be scanned to a disc for you to
use.
You will need to check for scanning services in your respective countries and find prices for their
services. Generally speaking it should work out at about $200 per 1000 pages. (Got 5 books? Total
pages less than 1000?), you're in luck!
When your book arrives back from the scanner it will have been dissected, so you will need to keep
all the pages in a folder alongside the information that you gathered regarding the copyright, and
of course, a duplicate of the scanned disc.
You are now ready to start editing all of your new found information.
Remember to be very liberal with your editing. The more changes you make the less likelyhood of any
claim to duplicating work and questioning copyright. (You don't want to get involved in lengthy
arguments about the legality of custody etc)
Hence...Make significant changes...
That's all the copyright law deems you have to do. Make significant changes.
